He slipped her back into the deck, hoping not to see her again.
The Spread.
Past
The Waxworks - misaligned in Good
Usually representing imprisonment, torture and helplessness. But misaligned it tells of an abundance of energy at a critical time.
This card tells of the time Henric came to the rescue of a strange old man (campaign trait - Chance Saviour). The cards lead him to the site of a Monster attack, with his guards already slain, Henric called upon an incantation of his people to drive back the beast (regional trait - Superstitious Ward).
Present
The Midwife - partial in Neutral
Being a conduit to creation, but not the creator. Seeing good in the worst situation.
The Twin - partial in Evil
Duality of Purpose or Identity.
These cards speak of a deception, The Twin twisting The Midwife to blind Henric to the danger in his seemingly peaceful existence. It's a quiet life as a travelling harrower. Too quiet?
Future
The Keep - partial in Good
Quiet Strength and standing firm in the face of hardship.
The Teamster - partial in Neutral
An external driving force. Something that keeps you going beyond your known limits. This force cannot be ignored.
The future is always in motion, a mystery. But the Harrowing foretells of a great hardship, but with some force or ally to keeping Henric going, together standing strong against it.
But all harrowers fear The Twins, for their duplicity can reverse the meaning of the whole harrowing...
