Tethan Evenfall

Elven Merchant, not a Wizard

Eldest son of Princess Cantrell and the High Priest Kundera. Educated in the arcane arts by a human Wizard rescued from the clutches of one of Magebane’s hobgoblin raiding parties. For almost 180 years an agent of King Morelle. Travelling into human and dwarven lands seeking arcane items to help defeat Queen Kalissrael. Disguised as a simple merchant his caravans of food raw materials and foreign trinkets have slipped past the inquisition and delivered their secret cargo. Now far from home his caravan has been ambushed, the human mercenaries guarding it slaughtered to a man. Too organised and powerful to be the work of human bandits it seems the weeping war has spread to even these distant lands.

Isolated and penniless he has found refuge with a group of hapless adventurers. Perhaps whilst hiding amongst their ranks he can buy himself enough time to strengthen his own powers which have been neglected for so many years.

Diary

Diary Entry 6

We have arrived at a pleasant town on the coast. An attack by pirates from the north was seen off swiftly as its vanguard was defeated mainly by the actions of Kestra. If she wasn’t such a problem for me it would be hard to find a more useful defender. The local knights have arrived too late for any action but their presence has boosted the morale of the townsfolk. Counted amongst their number is an Elven knight bearing the livery of Corellon Larethian. He has sent word forward to the resistance of my arrival. Hopefully I may be able to complete my services as king’s messenger.

We set off along the coast road towards another human settlement. Though the humans appear to have spread out across these lands they are a deeply divided people. Small settlements stand alone with help often being far off in more heavily settled lands.

This new town seems more prosperous than other human towns but still lacks the harmony of Elven communities.

Diary Entry 5

The atmosphere in Karak O’Tan is much as I remembered it. Entry to the city was easier this time as the guards recognised me but I was forced to wait for the rest of the party. An expedition into the Labyrinth was planned in order to gain funds. Hunting for a Duergar cleric and his bodyguard. Though successful the expedition revealed the greed in the heart of some of the humans. Trouble almost erupted when the presence of an agent of the Queen spotted Kastra in the inn. Though Athin had the good sense to keep her magic under raps Kastra was obviously unable to hide her heritage. Luckily the party was inclined to leave the city quickly and we booked passage on a barge down the river towards the coast.

As we near he land of my ancestors these close calls are going to increase. It may not be to long until Athin and Kestra become a liability.

Diary Entry 4

The trip to Karak O’Tan was long and uneventful until we came across an Orc sacrifice. Though we dealt with the two berserkers fairly swiftly along with the Orc who appeared to overseeing the ceremony the rescued victim proved troublesome. When Yurlond came round from the injuries he received he attacked the weakened creature. This led to a strange bout of infighting involving spells to encourage giant wrestling. I never thought I’d be so glad to see a Dwarven settlement if only for the civilising influence of a town.

Diary entry 3

Arrived in Iriltide. The place is just as bad as the last time I was here. If this was not a haven for the exodus then there would be little reason for the civilised lands not to wipe it of the face of the planet.

Collected the bounty on some bandits last night in an ambush that could have gone better. It has however furnished the party with enough funds to purchase new horses and I have acquired a longbow which though have human design will suffice for now.

Wanted posters show the presence of an inquisitor in the area. The trip across the wilderness that we must now take is certain to be fraught with danger.

Diary entry 2

Came across the wreckage of my caravan. Though there were clearly no survivors I was able to recover the contents of one of the secret compartments. The capture of these correspondents could have been detrimental to operations in the area.

Athin Noir it appears is a spellcaster. Though this is something of a relief to me she seems to not understand the precariousness of her position. She openly practices the arcane arts in full view of the public. She is no doubt going to be a problem.

The rest of the party seems fractious and inept. They wander around bickering and unsure about the purpose of their quest.

Entry 1

The presence of Athin Noir is a concern to me. The appearance of another elf this far abroad so soon after the attack on my caravan cannot be a coincidence.

Kastra Onechild is an oddity. It has been many years since I last saw a half elf and I have never seen one so far removed from the learning and nobility of her ancestry. Though I do not doubt her courage or loyalty her lack of knowledge of the affairs of her people coupled with her simple mind could prove disastrous should she come across agents of the inquisition.

Smile is clearly not telling the whole story of his arrival. Between himself and Malachais there is the potential to prove useful agents.

Sirk and Fenix seem good folk but their insistence on drawing attention to themselves could prove problematic for me.

Moric Oddtree reminds me of my teacher all those years ago. He shows a naiveté about the world outside his hometown but is clearly comfortable with his abilities. What aspect of his heritage gave him this gift is still unclear.

All is not gloom though for a young dwarf by the name of Yurlond Forgefounder travels with the party. His quest for arcane knowledge combined with dwarven craftsmanship could prove highly fruitful.
