Two matches further in to the Bloodbowl Season, first up was the highest score draw in League history, a superb 4 - 4 between the Reds and the Hawks. The Reds just squeeking a draw with a riot in the dying turns.

Next saw the rematch between the Mountain Men and the Wenches, this time it was a 3 - 1 win to the Wenches, but yet another played forced to retire due to injuries.

A sixth win puts the Wenches way out in front of the pack, having eight games under their belt to Skrote's six, Reds and Hawks with four, Braaaiins three and everyone else trailing with one or two.

Destroyers are still to play, DeSilva, give me a bell when you want to get a game in. :)

Levi, fancy a game of Tolbeck vs R'lyeh Wednesday? If we get started early we'll have the game over with before Jak wakes up get's down here.

The White Mountain team also deserve credit for the killing of one Wench and the maiming (-1 Mv) of another. Good Work those Ogres. :)

What I Painted This Week: 8-14 July 2009

Tue, 14 Jul 2009 12:29:00 GMT

Bloodbowl Balls

New Bloodbowl Balls, from Heresy. Cheers to Jak who passed these to me when they came with his new Deathball Wights.

Villagers Villagers

Next up we have some Villagers for our 'Nam campaign, these are 20mm minis from East Riding.

The Jawa Ship

The Jawa Traders now have a finished spacecraft, a Lunar Lander, with one previous careful owner. This came from a Charity shop so I've no idea who makes it. The Sofa came from Black Cat.

A Modern US Phone Box

Also from Black Cat is this Modern US Phone Box.

Borkovan Smugglers

From Copplestone's KGB men, we have more Borkovan Smugglers, destined for our "The Wire" inspired Drug Dealers game.

Modern Police Modern Police

Modern British Police, from Warm Acre, not great sculpts but the only up to date British Police minis I can find. These are destined for Doctor Who games.

A Bandit

This guy came from Artizan via DeSilva, a Mexican Bandit for some Old West gaming. Also like all other historical minis, perfect for some Doctor Who adventures.

Bottletop Barrels

And Finally. More Bottletop Barrels, continuing on with this project from last week. The big delay with making these is waiting on emptying bottles. :)

Another quite productive week there. Not sure what I'll get done next week, I'm hoping to get a few more Samurai characters, more Doctor Who characters, monsters and scenery as well as an X-Wing finished.

Started but not finished this week include Winston Churchill from Black Scorpion and more Dark Ages Villagers.

The new TARDIS still needs it's panels, the plan is to print some out and stick them on, so I can get the Police Box signs looking good.

Now it's only the incoming Destroyers who've yet to play.

A few strange results here, the formerly dominating Reds started the season with a pair of losses to the Wenches and Hawks. Then the excellent Wenches fall against the dire Skrote.

Players who end up playing more matches are running two teams this season, partly to give the less experienced players more opponents in their rating class, also to stop some teams having ten more games than their rivals.

Anyone with more than one team will have to choose which team they put forward for the Cup. To qualify for the Cup, any team must have played six games over the course of the three month season.

As things stand, The Wenches have the best Offence at 3.5 TD/Game, while the Hawks have the best Defence letting in only 1 TD/Game. The Reds are currently in line for the Hard as Nails award suffering only 0.7 Cas/Game and the Best Passing at 5 Pass/Game. Paraplegic are at the top of the Pass Blockers table allowing only 1 Pass/Match past them. Klean are looking at the Tackle Dummies pries for suffering 4 Cas/Game and the Worst Defence for letting in 5 TD/Game. Braaaiins are standing in the Throw Like A Girl position completing only 1.3 Pass/Game. All other records have no current leader.

  Bloodbowl League Stats

Wed, 24 Jun 2009 23:26:46 GMT

Okay, this is silly.

Pulling the stats together for this Season is proving to be a nightmare, as people aren't recording Casualties in any sort of sensible way.

Jak and Max are just recording casualties inflicted, David is recording the difference between casualties for and against, while I'm recording both those for and against.

I've no idea what Levi has recorded as he's taken his roster with him.

Levi, can you bring the Team Roster along to Ian's on on Sunday? If you can I should be able to straighten this mess out for Tuesday.

I'm going to put together a clearer results table for next Season and include Casualties on it. Also as Jak will be covering the running of the League, I'll try and keep an up to date table of stats with what that could mean in prize money at the end of the Season included.

Bloodbowl: The Spike! Magazine Trophy 2009 and End of Season

Wed, 24 Jun 2009 21:04:38 GMT

The Final Score is in and in a surprise result (shenanigans) The New World Wenches are the new holders of the Mithril Spike!

Wenches Coach Dave bought himself the Cup by throwing his whole bank balance on Cards, giving him a monstrous one and a half million crowns on Cards and Inducements.

The Double Whammy of "Doom and Gloom" (opponents looses each Re-Roll for the Match on a 2+) and a Halfling Master Chef put the game to bed before any dice where rolled.

  Bloodbowl: Spike! Cup Semi-Final #1

Sun, 21 Jun 2009 13:19:42 GMT

Match number one for our second annual Spike! Cup saw R'lyeh and Tolbeck face off, it was a clash between the current holders of the Mithril Spike and the reigning Bloodbowl Champions.

Semi Finals ScoreGateDate
R'lyeh Reds vs Tolbeck Packers 6-188,0002009-06-20

The loss of the Tolbeck Ogre early in the first quarter was telling to the Packers defence, injuries started to pile up and they couldn't block the Reds passing game.

Three times the Packers receivers carried the ball deep into the Reds backfield, beyond Blitz range but only managed to turn one of the into a TD, failed dodges turned scoring opportunities into turnovers.

Failed dodges were causing more and more Tolbeck players to be carried into the Infirmary and in the second half the game slid into another R'lyeh passing exhibition to bring us to the 6-1 result.

It's Wenches vs Hawks in the other semi-final and that's due to be played during the week, with the Cup final to follow before the week is done.

Once the Spike! Magazine Trophy is decided, that's the end of the Spring 2009 Season, the Player of the Year 2009 award and then the Transfer Window for two weeks.

In July, Jak takes over as The Commish and we begin the Summer 2009 Season and the march towards the 2009 Dungeonbowl.

So should nothing else change, it's going to be Reds vs Packers and Wenches vs Hawks as the semi-finals.

A few people are planning to change teams or add second teams next season, also we could see Ian and Addam join before the Summer is out so there could be a very different look to the table next time.

Bloodbowl: R'lyeh crush the Hawks once more

Mon, 25 May 2009 17:04:34 GMT

As Dave couldn't make his game yesterday, I picked up the challenge and the R'lyeh Reds took on the Northern Hawks for their 5th meeting of the season.

Two riots chewed up the clock while an pitch invasion flattened half the Hawks in a game of massive crowd involvement. None of it helpful to the Hawks.

Bad luck plagued the Northern team through the entire game with failed catches and fumbles all over the place. The end result was 5-1 and not a single casualty for either side.

  Bloodbowl: Reds vs Hawks again

Sun, 17 May 2009 22:23:50 GMT

First up Dave and Levi, get some flaming games in. I'm going to leave it now until people catch up. :)

Match ScoreGateDate
R'lyeh Reds vs Northern Hawks 5-236,0002009-05-17

The Hawks were once again able to inflict more damage, but unable to turn that into TDs. The final Reds TD was in the last turn of the game and could have gone either way, so it wasn't a wide a game as it looks.

This leaves the League Table as follows:

2009 Blood Bowl League (Spring)

TeamCoach W L D GD TR Pts
R'lyeh Reds (Dark Elf) Gav 9 - - +38 287 45
Northern Hawks (Chaos) Jak 1 5 - -14 268 10

Not sure what, if any, rules changes are in there from the version we have, but it does have the background and famous teams sections in it. Also changes from LRB4 are no longer marked in red.

Anyone (I'm guessing this is Dave's thing really) fancy grepping through it and finding out if much has changed?

This doesn't have the changes from the rules review applied, but there could be some other stuff you can use to get a sneaky leg up.

There were no retirements this year, quite a few players held up their teams for more money, including Star Blitzers Red Fin of the Packers and Sven of the Hawks and who claimed the maximum 60,000 Crowns.

Two players left their teams looking for better deals, Jenna Haze of the Wenches and Skrote the Tosser of Uniteed. Both started at a 50,000 Crown reserve, Jenna got no takers and Skrote transferred to the Packers.

Prizes were awarded to the best and worst performing regular teams, that is teams who played more than one game. Best receiving a 20,000 Crown Award, worst receiving a 10,000 Crown Pity Prize.

Season End Awards

Best Offence: Tolbeck Packers at 3.25 TD/Game

Worst Offence: Northern Hawks at 2 TD/Game

Best Defence: Northern Hawks at 1.85 TD/Game

Worst Defence: Skrote Uniteed at 2.3 TD/Game

A 20,000 Crown "Special Defence Award" goes to Kemri Paraplegic, who even though they played just one game and lost it two nill, still had a better defence than Skrote (the Season Winner) and Tolbeck (the Cup Winner).

And off we go again, with opening the Season with a match between last season's number two, the Northern Hawks and the returning R'lyeh Reds.

The mass of Block/Tackle/Mighty Blow Chaos Warriors was telling in the match, putting five players in the Red Box including a dead one, but the Reds passing game was hard to stop as they clocked up three TDs in the first half then another pair in the second to round it off.
