A few good things on the iPlayer at the mo.

The latest episode of the excellent [spooks], best of the series so far. Harry is accused of being an FSB mole.

As series two of the Eighth Doctor New Adventures is over, the Sunday Doctor Who radio spot is now filled by a four part story, The Chimes of Midnight. Set before Lucie joined the Doctor, for this adventure the Doctor is accompanied by Charley.

Alongside the Radio 7 Doctor Who, we have repeats of some of the more recent television adventures, well worth a look is the superb Blink.

Doctor Who: Blink

As well as more stories from established favourites, the BBC have given us a few new shows to take a look at.

First up we have a remake of Survivors, the first episode was a bit weak, like a zombie movie without the zombies, but it picked up a bit from there so I'll give it a fair shake through the rest of this series.

Survivors 101
Survivors 102
Survivors 103

And finally for now, a new Detective show, Wallander. Set in modern Sweden, but with a UK cast and performed in English. We have a documentary setting the scene and the first two episodes.

Episode 6 of the new 8th Doctor radio adventures is now up on iPlayer.

I've not had a chance to listen to it yet, so I can't tell you what it's about. The series has been fun so far so I expect this to be more of the same.

Undone, Doctor Who and more 7th Dimension SciFi on iPlayer

Sat, 18 Oct 2008 01:41:06 GMT

Lots of good SciFi on BBC Radio 7 at the moment, in a slot called 7th Dimension, including a new 8th Doctor adventure on Sunday, so it's well worth keeping an eye on the Radio 7 section of the iPlayer.

Doctor Who: Dead London

The complete first series of Undone, a fun SciFi/Comedy from BBC Radio 7 is also now available on the iPlayer.

Undone 101: Mind the Gaps
Undone 102: Unappreciated
Undone 103: Unrivalled
Undone 104: Unfamiliar
Undone 104: Unravelled

Another new icon, this time for Doctor Who News

Thu, 25 Sep 2008 12:01:38 GMT

A new Doctor Who news icon, replacing the slightly obscure Gallifreyan Clock with a much more recognisable police box.

This time it's based upon a photograph released as Creative Commons by Zir. Details and proper credit information here.

The licence terms ask for a credit to zir.com, but that doesn't seem to be a current website. So I guess the original image is copyright to the former owners of zir.com. Who can now be found on Wikipedia here.

   Dalek Upgrades

Sat, 16 Aug 2008 17:43:40 GMT

Daleks

The Daleks went down a bit soft to UNIT in our game of 5150 today, so I'm thinking of upping the basic Daleks from:

Dalek

REP 3, Hard Armour, Dalek Blaster
Nerves of Steel, Terrifying, Resilient, Slow

To:

Dalek

REP 4, Hard Armour, Absorption Armour, Dalek Blaster
Nerves of Steel, Terrifying, Resilient, Slow

REP 4 gives the basic Daleks at least a chance to hit the UNIT troops in cover.

The Absorption Armour is as seen on TV, also it's going to help the Dalek stand up to the devastating rate of fire the Minimi LMGs kick out.

Dalek Blasters can remain unchanged at 18" range, targets 1, impact 2.

The high rate of incoming fire, especially from the LMG, is what's really hurting the Daleks. With these upgrades I hope they'll put up a better fight next time.

Doctor Who: Silence in the Library

Sun, 01 Jun 2008 16:23:43 GMT

Part one of the wonderfully spooky Doctor Who adventure, Silence in the Library.

The writer that came up The Empty Child, Captain Jack and the Weeping Angels of Blink returns to scare kids out of libraries and send us screaming from shadows and dust.

Looking forward to part two and learning more about River Song.

Slitheen

A repaint of a Slitheen, from the fantastically named Raxacoricofallapatorius. The model is from the Doctor Who Micro-Universe range.

 No Doctor Who this week

Sun, 25 May 2008 16:16:45 GMT

Due to the ever dreadful Eurovision Song Contest, there was no Doctor Who this week.

I blame Wogan. He's always been a troublemaker. :)

However the BBC, Gawd Bless 'em, have made good with what they're calling the Mid Series Trail, a preview of the rest of the series.

Go see:

Mid Series Trail

Well, Rose seems to have borrowed a rifle from Aliens, loads of Daleks and Davros (just they way I painted him).

I'm still betting that Rose is a decoy on the "She is Returning" story, I'm holding out for a return from Susan, Romana, The Rani or some other Timelord character.

Cluedo week for Doctor Who, it was with the Lead Pipe in the Library, but Whodunit?

  The Doctor's Daughter

Sat, 10 May 2008 19:43:37 GMT

Doctor Who: The Doctor's Daughter

Not at all what I expected, but some nice ideas, a fun show and a plot hook for the future.

I did expect them to make some more use of the Doctor Who history. I'd mark out hard for a reference to Susan. But the production team seems to be sticking to their guns and keeping this as a Doctor Who for a new generation. No knowledge of the older stories required.

Still, they would have scored bonus geek points if when The Doctor said "I've been a Father before", he'd added "and a Grandfather".

I'm holding out for more Timelord returns. We've had The Master (he'll be back), we still need Romana, Susan and The Rani. :)

WIP K9

A lucky find by my lovely Wife today, minis of K9 and a Slitheen. From the new Doctor Who random miniatures game.

So I quickly cropped them off the bases and replaced K9's bendy rubber tail with a pin.

  Doctor Who: The Poison Sky

Sat, 03 May 2008 19:15:45 GMT

Continuing from last weeks Sontaran Stratagem, this week we complete the UNIT vs The Sontarans story.

Doctor Who: The Poison Sky

Confidential: Sontar-Ha!

  Doctor Who: The Sontaran Stratagem

Sun, 27 Apr 2008 23:47:54 GMT

Martha, UNIT, The Sontarans, evil Nerds, evil Clones, evil Satnav and smog weapons. Awesome.

You'd think the sonic screwdriver could shatter glass though, a steel one could. :)

  Planet of the Ood

Sat, 19 Apr 2008 21:14:34 GMT

Return of the Ood this week, good story with a little sinister foreshadowing thrown in.

Doctor Who: Planet of the Ood

Next week we have the return of Martha, UNIT and the Sontarans to look forward to.
