Yellow Elf is about to die!
FNG Second TourTue, 01 Nov 2011 10:30:13 GMT
Just when I thought it was never going to happen, FNG Second Tour appears.
Due early this month.
Nice cover art too.
FNG '67: Back To The WorldWed, 22 Jul 2009 13:59:57 GMT
And so our first tour of FNG comes to an end, it's a harsh but fun game and we're already planning the next one.
"Fighting Eagles" 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, I Field Force.
Lt Marshall (Harvey) decided to re-up, he's looking to move to another unit, maybe Air Cav for his second tour.
Sgt Killins (Levi) heads back to the world, for his steak dinner and GI educaton.
Despite his best efforts, Marshall doesn't get to ship is captured NVA flamethrower back to the world. Nice try.
Both end the Tour as Rep 6 and a dozen or more personal kills, but Killins attribute, Coward, means he doesn't re-up.
Sgt Swift (Jak's first star) was sent to military prison, for a crime he didn't commit, after taking the blame for a
disastrous failure by Lt Martin (one of David's characters). He would later escape to the Los Angeles Underground to begin a life
as a Soldier of Fortune, If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire...
Sgt Swift!
In turn Lt Martin (David) was buried in a VC tunnel network when the area was bombed collapsing the tunnel. This actually saved the others from carrying out the Fragging they were threatening after the Sgt Swift incident.
Sgt Noris (David's first star) was captured by the VC, years later he would be rescued from a POW camp by John Rambo, the one man army. Clint went on to act as a consultant for Hollywood war movies.
The friends they left behind, Sgt White (David) remains at Rep 2, with his mounting injuries at doesn't look good for Napoleon getting out of The Nam alive.
In better shape is Sgt Furio (Jak) who is left as the senior Sergeant in the Platoon at Rep 4, his Hard As Nails attribute having saved him a few times leaves him a scarred but experienced and capable combat leader.

A good map resource for our FNG games, go see what you can find for us Harvey. :)
Top Tip from the 2HW mailing list, download the PDF maps and zoom to 300% to get a good size for Operations.
What I Painted This Week: 8-14 July 2009Tue, 14 Jul 2009 12:29:00 GMT
New Bloodbowl Balls, from Heresy. Cheers to Jak who passed these to me when they came with his new Deathball Wights.
Next up we have some Villagers for our 'Nam campaign, these are 20mm minis from East Riding.
The Jawa Traders now have a finished spacecraft, a Lunar Lander, with one previous careful owner. This came from a Charity shop so I've no idea who makes it. The Sofa came from Black Cat.
Also from Black Cat is this Modern US Phone Box.
From Copplestone's KGB men, we have more Borkovan Smugglers, destined for our "The Wire" inspired Drug Dealers game.
Modern British Police, from Warm Acre, not great sculpts but the only up to date British Police minis I can find. These are destined for Doctor Who games.
This guy came from Artizan via DeSilva, a Mexican Bandit for some Old West gaming. Also like all other historical minis, perfect for some Doctor Who adventures.
And Finally. More Bottletop Barrels, continuing on with this project from last week. The big delay with making these is waiting on emptying bottles. :)
Another quite productive week there. Not sure what I'll get done next week, I'm hoping to get a few more Samurai characters, more Doctor Who characters, monsters and scenery as well as an X-Wing finished.
Started but not finished this week include Winston Churchill from Black Scorpion and more Dark Ages Villagers.
The new TARDIS still needs it's panels, the plan is to print some out and stick them on, so I can get the Police Box signs looking good.
What I Painted in Week 1 of JulyTue, 07 Jul 2009 12:12:17 GMT
My new plan, rather than posting each individual model I paint, will be to do a post a week with all the stuff I've painted. And with that plan here is week one of July.
More Dark Ages villagers for The Doctor or SGR to meet on their adventures. From Gripping Beast.
A Scruffy Ronin from EM4.
Another Dalek, this time it came from a board game found in a charity shop.
Star Wars minis from Wizards, the second Jawa is actually a Micro Machines Evil Emperor. The Cyborg in Gold had is gun removed, arm rotated and a briefcase built from parts of a 1:72 Huey Rocket Pod and a GW Imperial Guard Autocannon.
Here we have the latest additions to Weird Des's Gang, The Weirdos. Two Converted Heavy Weapons Men, based on a Slick from East Riding with a Minigun from an EM4 Robot.
Also new for the Weirdos are two Armed Launches, 25mm Armed Splinters from Old Crow, simply the best finish on a resin cast model I've ever seen, first class.
The remaining troops for our 'Nam NVA Platoon, all 1:72 plastics from Italeri.
From Artizan a pair of downed RAF Pilots, ready to be smuggled back to England by The Resistance.
Based on a great idea from Ironworker on the Lead Adventure Forum, Barrels made from plastic bottle tops. Dead simple and look good so I'll be making a ton more of these. Some are singles and some are grouped into stacks.
And that's all for this week, I've a few other things started including Nam villagers, a new TARDIS and a second hand spacecraft for the Jawas but I'll include them in the week I finish them.
Now it's time to finish setting up the Doctor Who game for tonight.
Building a Village, part IISat, 30 May 2009 17:33:05 GMT
First up, here is the completed front of building 1, with our models for scale, looks like a good fit so far.
Next to build the sides, these are 10' like the front and back, but sloping up to a point 12' high for the roof. I marked off 10' and 12' heights then every 9' along, the walls are to be 18' long and I needed the middle points. The marked in diagonals from the corners of the building up to the middle.
Then cut the sides out.
The matches being 10' and the height of the roof 12', I needed to measure and chop a few more feet of supporting match.
Then glue them on. Here are the completed sides.
The roof needs to overhang a little, so 11' should do it. 20' wide will give us 1' overhang on each side.
And here are the completed walls for building one.
Next stage is some bases, old scrap CDs, with a bit of paper stuck over the hole with PVA, thanks to the local supermarket for sending some junk mail to use as model making paper. :)
I put on a DVD to watch while waiting on the glue. Once the PVA looked dry enough, which took me to the bit in Aliens where the Marines almost shoot Newt thinking she's a monster, I glued the sides of the building onto the base.
It seemed easiest to stick the front wall on first and work backwards.
One set of walls done, I set about making a duplicate set, exactly as I'd done the first so I won't bore everyone with showing you the same thing all over again.
Two buildings. :)
The roofs are made of two 20' by 11' rectangles hinged with card.
Once I've textured the base, I'll attach the roofs properly, here is one held in place for now.
Next stage is texturing the bases with sand and PVA. Which will take an age to dry, then texture the roofs.
I'm low on PVA so I'll see how far I can get.
More updates later. :)
Building a Village for VietnamFri, 29 May 2009 13:25:08 GMT
It's scenery building day here today, this time it's a Vietnamese village for our FNG campaign.
Based on the excellent buildings by Matakishi, but scaled down from 28mm to 20mm.
You can see Matakishi's tutorial page here:
Making 28mm scale buildings for Vietnam
As The King of Cork, Matakishi used Cork board for the walls and BBQ skewers for supports, I used the materials I've got, corrugated cardboard from old boxes for walls and matches for supports.
Step one was cutting the flaps off the box to give me nice square corners to work from.
I have a 1:72 scale rule, perfect for this sort of thing, the matches I've got are 10' long, so I decided that the buildings should be 10' at the front and back, so I don't have to do much cutting on the matches.
Keeps things nice and simple.
It looks a good height against a mini, I've used a converted Weird Nam infantry minigunner as a test model.
So I marked up the cardboard at 10' and checked it was a good fit for the matches.
Then cut a 10' strip of wall.
Looking at Matakishi's plans and the size of the bases I'm going to use, it looked like 18' was a good width, so I sliced down two 18' walls from the 10' tall strip.
Next I measured up our test mini, he's almost 7' tall including his base and that base it 5' wide. So the door needs to be 7' by 5'.
I marked up the door 2' from the edge of the wall, also marking a line 4' from the ground to be the bottom of the window height. The window top is the 7' mark for the top of the door and the width of the window was drawn on by eye at a size that looked about right.
The door and window were then cut out.
Next stage was adding the supports, these were glued on with superglue to the front and back.
And there is the end of the first post on this, more to follow soon.
