Jak's Pathfinder: Missing SpellsSun, 21 Sep 2008 12:48:14 GMT
Working on Cirk's (Zak's) spellbook I noticed a few more spells missing from Yurlond's (David's) book, so I've added them in.
I've upload the work in progress version of Cirk's Book, it's a bit of a monster with that Bard/Druid combination. Also with all the other Arcane casters I can copy/paste spells they share, Cirk is the only Divine caster so far.
Jak's Pathfinder: MendingSun, 21 Sep 2008 11:52:55 GMT
Somehow I managed to miss out the spell Mending from people's spellbooks. Sorry about that.
School Transmutation
Level bard 0, cleric 0, druid 0, sorcerer/wizard 0
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
Range 10 ft.
Target one object of up to 1 lb./level
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless, object); Spell resistance: yes (harmless, object)
This spell repairs damaged objects, restoring 1d4 hit points to the object. If the object has the broken condition, this condition is removed if the object is restored to full hit points. All of the pieces of an object must be present for this spell to function. Magic items can be repaired by this spell, but you must have a caster level equal to or higher than that of the object. Magic items that are broken (at 0 hit points or less) can be repaired with this spell, but this spell does not restore their magic abilities. This spell does not affect creatures (including constructs). This spell has no effect on objects that have been warped or otherwise transmuted, but it can still repair damage done to such items.
Anyone who should have it, now has it in their spellbook.
Jak's Pathfinder: Yurlond's SpellbookWed, 17 Sep 2008 22:06:27 GMT
Yurlond's Spellbook done. That puts us almost up to date.
Just the dual Bard/Druid book for Cirk to go. Not quite sure how to format that one yet, should it be two separate books or one combined?
I'll have a play about and see which seems simplest.
Jak's Pathfinder: Rogue's SpellbooksWed, 17 Sep 2008 21:24:29 GMT

Updated the page for Jak's Pathfinder, with everyone having correct names spellings and up to date 2nd level stats.
Spellbooks are up to date for Athin (Steff), Moric (Gav) and Tethan (Harvey).
With the latest round of levelling up, Malachais (DeSilva), Robert (Levi) and Yurlond (David) all became spellcasters. Cirk (Zak) has taken two spellcasting classes, Bard and Druid already. I'll add spellbooks for all these people soon.

I'm up to speed with Jak's Pathfinder now, as best as I can be. Tethan's spellbook is completed and ready to use Tuesday.
Crazy and Zak have their sheets for Fenix and Sirk to level up with the week, so I can't update the page with their details. Also everyone needs to level up, so I'll update everyone's details when they have.
Jak's Pathfinder updatedFri, 12 Sep 2008 10:40:57 GMT
The game page for Jak's Pathfinder is now updated, all the character basics a spell list for Athin (Steff).
I'm working on a spell book for Tethan (Harvey), but being a Wizard he has a lot of spells. All the basic info is done, I just need to fill in all the spell details.
David and Zak, can you let me know which spells you've taken/are planning to take so I can sort a spell list for you too? If you can email me the list over the weekend, I should be able to get it sorted by Tuesday.

Roleplay next TuesdayWed, 03 Sep 2008 12:18:45 GMT
After much debate between Zak and Jak, who both wanted to run the next game, the decided between then that Jak is to run next and it's going to be Pathfinder, using the Beta 1 rulebook.
Anyone who doesn't have a character, you can get the rules as a set of PDFs for free from here:
PDF is fairly standard so even Zak's computer should be able to open them.

Try and get a character together for next week so we can get on with it. As there is only one printed copy of the book, it could take all night otherwise.
I'll try and get some information about the world from Jak to help people with character concepts, anything I can get hold of I'll post here.
All we know at the moment is that it's going to be just options from the Pathfinder book, with the Gods taken from Forgotten Realms.
Some handy pages on the Realms Gods:

Realms deities
Hopefully that's enough to get everyone thinking about things.
Random Tavern and NPC Generators updated to Pathfinder Beta 1Tue, 26 Aug 2008 11:24:11 GMT
The Pathfinder Beta 1 book arrived today, so I've updated the Random NPC and Random Tavern generators in line with it.
Creates a tavern complete with prices, detailed staff and a menu.
Tavern
This is a more elaborate NPC generator, so far is creates any PC class and race from 1st to 20th level
other than Gnome, who I left out to spite them.
NPC
Behind the scenes at the moment it's just a patch I can remove easily, should Pathfinder not work out for us. But it's working and if all goes well I'll update the main scripts with the changes.
You can access the new code here:

With the D&D 3rd Ed code here:

Pathfinder RPG, now in BetaThu, 14 Aug 2008 19:51:37 GMT
Now available, the Beta version of the promising D&D successor, Pathfinder.
Based on the Open d20 system behind D&D3 and D&D3.5, Pathfinder updates the core classes to bring them in line with the later published classes and maintains backwards compatibility with D&D3 content.
So far so good, this new Beta release is supposed to be the first feature complete release so when the printed copy Jack has ordered arrives, we can give it a go.
D&D3 to 4 conversion, Pathfinder, GURPS and more Roleplay stuffSat, 14 Jun 2008 10:22:22 GMT
First up, Wizards have posted a page about converting characters from D&D3 to D&D4.
Basically, you're transferring the concept, not the stats.
It does include some very basic rules for a Monk, it's okay, but not great.
The real problem with D&D4 is that it feels like half a game. It's like they're selling us a minimal game, so they can sell us the rest as upgrades later.
Our group never moved from D&D3 to D&D3.5, while 3.5 was a clear improvement, it wasn't that much better and we didn't bother buying the 3.5 books.
The early news about D&D4 sounded great and we were all interested in changing over. Only now the books are available and we've had a peek, it doesn't look so good.
Pathfinder, the other 4th Edition, is looking really good, currently seems to be the front runner to replace D&D3 for us.
But while we're looking about, the plan is to evaluate a few different systems.
For our modern/scifi games, d20 Modern and expansions d20 Past and d20 Future are still going strong and we have no desire to change that. It's a new fantasy game we're looking at.
The plan is, a different GM is going to act as champion for each system, run the game for four to six weeks and then we'll have a good long beard about them and pick a favourite.
Dave is to be the champion of D&D4.
Jack is to be the champion of Pathfinder.
I'm going to champion GURPS4.
Option 4 is to stick with D&D3, we don't really have a problem with it so it could be that we just stick with it. We've been playing it for eight years now so we don't really need to trial it.

GURPS
On Zak's d20 Future 40K game.
Since we last played d20 40K, a purpose built 40K roleplay game has been released, cancelled, sold off and re-released.
It hasn't been that long, but GW don't like to keep successful and popular products around.

So the plan is, to pick our favourite characters from the old game, move the timeline on and join them later in life using the new system.
As a bonus, Zak is also keen to give the new version of d20 Star Wars, Saga Edition, a go. So when he can get a solid run of Tuesdays off work, we could give that a spin.
Dark Heresy
Star Wars Saga Edition
On Stargate SGR-6.
Well, while we haven't pulled the plug on it yet, it's suffering from all the problems I expected and some old ones that seem to happen now and again.
Plot Inconsistency. Within a few weeks, plots that one GM has set up are countered by another.
While I was running the game one week, Curly Bill (Dave) is infected by a young Goa'uld symbiont. The following week, with Jack running, Curly Bill is scanned with a Naquida scanner and found to be clean.
I wanted the reveal of Curly Bill as a Goa'uld to be big plot point and surprise to the party, so didn't make it public knowledge.
Jack of course had no idea Bill should fail the test, it would have derailed his story if that had.
This sort of problem is why rotating GM games have failed in the past.
Experience Drift. What I thought would happen was that players that never GM will race ahead in XP, the same few GMs carry most of the game. This didn't actually happen so much. Or at least the way I expected.
People missing games, such as Aly heading off and getting married, actually balanced out the fact they never GM.
The problem really only appeared for Zak, who because of work can't make it every Tuesday, seemed to run most of the weeks he could make it and ended up far behind the other characters.
The Two Tier Party Effect.
A problem that first appeared in a Star Wars game I ran, d20 Revised Edition, where half the players were Jedi.
The game rules made the Jedi more powerful than other classes, they also had, due to the era of play, they had social status and legal power.
Making the situation even worse, it was they players who could play later, turned up more often and who were more dominant in the group that were the Jedi too.
This meant that the Jedi had more play time, so more XP, so it create a two tier system. With one half of the party far more powerful than the other.
Adding the late game means that we no longer have some players fall behind as they have to leave early to catch the bus. But some of these other problems have arisen.
In the Stargate game, it's happened again. With all the Blokes playing Military types and the Ladies playing Mission Specialists.
All the dominant personalities at the mo are in the Blokes camp. The mission specialists aren't taking a leadership role.
So it's turning into a situation where the the Military are giving orders and pulling out from explorer type missions because there is nothing to shoot, and the Specialists aren't questioning this.
It should be that the Military are there to protect the Specialists while they complete the mission.
Mission Specialists are in danger of being just a toolkit for when the Soldiers find something they can't solve by shooting.
It's all quite annoying, but not much I can do about it when everyone has a free choice of character.
Overall it's just something to keep in mind when I start a new game.
