Extra Riflemen for UNIT/SGRFri, 19 Sep 2008 01:16:20 GMT
A few spare riflemen for UNIT and Stargate Recce, these are leftovers from the modern Light Role Infantry platoon I've put together.
A set of rules we've picked up, Battlefield Evolution: Modern Combat (aka ModCom), lists many of the standard weapons as exclusive options. For example, a fire team can't have both a Minimi and a LAW. So I'm going to have to paint up a few of the spare rifles I've got to shuffle things about to fit.
It seems that the British Infantry have too much fancy kit, so they've cut down the amount of gear the British Army have in ModCom for the sake of game balance.
Dalek UpgradesSat, 16 Aug 2008 17:43:40 GMT
The Daleks went down a bit soft to UNIT in our game of 5150 today, so I'm thinking of upping the basic Daleks from:
Dalek
REP 3, Hard Armour, Dalek Blaster
Nerves of Steel, Terrifying, Resilient, Slow
To:
Dalek
REP 4, Hard Armour, Absorption Armour, Dalek Blaster
Nerves of Steel, Terrifying, Resilient, Slow
REP 4 gives the basic Daleks at least a chance to hit the UNIT troops in cover.
The Absorption Armour is as seen on TV, also it's going to help the Dalek stand up to the devastating rate of fire the Minimi LMGs kick out.
Dalek Blasters can remain unchanged at 18" range, targets 1, impact 2.
The high rate of incoming fire, especially from the LMG, is what's really hurting the Daleks. With these upgrades I hope they'll put up a better fight next time.
The Completed Paras PlatoonSun, 08 Jun 2008 21:27:56 GMT
The completed Paras platoon, aka UNIT, aka Stargate Recce. Clicky the image for a bigger version.
With the final four infantry painted, that's a complete platoon of modern British light infantry, Platoon Commander, Sergeant and Radio man make up the Command Section, 3 Rifle Sections each of two four man fire teams and the Support Section with GPMGs.
They are missing the 51mm Mortar from the Support Section, but the only one I can find is in a pack with three other models I don't want, so I can always add that another day.
More Modern ParatroopersTue, 03 Jun 2008 13:16:34 GMT
Team A from 3 Section now complete, only Team B to go and I have a completed platoon of Modern Paratroopers. Ready for modern adventures, Zombie Hunting, fighting the Daleks and UNIT or facing the Jaffa as Stargate Recce.
More Modern ParasSun, 01 Jun 2008 15:08:29 GMT
More finished modern Paratroopers, the command section and another LAW-80 anti-dalek weapon.
The final seven troopers are on the painting table now, so I should have the completed platoon soon.

The Doctor Returns, BBC One April 5th 6:20pmFri, 28 Mar 2008 01:57:39 GMT
The Doctor returns to BBC One, for Season 30, or Season 4 in new money. The trailer looks great with appearances from Martha, Rose, The Ood, Sontarans, UNIT and all sorts of great stuff.
Rumour has is that this will be the last full series for the 10th Incarnation of The Doctor, with BBC Wales taking a year off in 2009 and producing a few specials, then another full series in 2010.
David Tennant has been great in the role, made especially difficult as he had to follow the fantastic Christopher Eccleston. I'm not sure if we're due a regeneration at the end of this season, or if that will happen during one of the 2009 specials.
Another many Doctors story would be nice, they've not done one since the 2005 return.

UNIT/SGR Colour schemeSat, 08 Mar 2008 13:40:24 GMT
Well, after deciding to stick with khaki trousers and green jackets, I'm changing my mind again.
Something in the back of my mind keeps telling me I should really paint on a DPM camo pattern. But I will resist.
The khaki was supposed to add a touch of colour and match in with the 70s/80s UNIT guys, but I'm just not sure about it.
All green is closer to the real world look. I can tell myself that at table distance, you can't really see the camo pattern and a plain dark green with heavy shading is just as good.
So green or khaki?
UNIT/SGR get a weapons upgradeThu, 06 Mar 2008 00:19:50 GMT
New weapons for UNIT/Stargate Recce, the FN Minimi Para and more LAW 80 Anti-Dalek weapons.
I've also settled on this new colour scheme. It's not accurate or based on any real world uniform, it's just I didn't want to paint camouflage on them and it's colourful enough to look interesting while still looking quite military.
